OpenID login and commenting
We are now allowing login with OpenID and have begun to turn on commenting
We are beginning to turn on commenting for Pleiades resources, starting with news items, for logged in site members as well as non-members who log in using their OpenID identifier. Users authenticated through OpenID get a limited role in Pleiades. They can create a profile and they can comment on resources. Comments are for now subject to review. We intend to turn on commenting for the ancient world resource of Pleiades under /places soon and hope to collect useful suggestions for names, references, and links to other relevant resources. There is no plan yet to add support for Facebook or Twitter identities. Site members should continue to log in to their full-featured accounts rather than use an OpenID as we do not yet have a means of connecting multiple identities.
In a related move, we have tried to simply our web interface by removing the abbreviated login form from the right hand column of pages. There is already a link at the top right of every page, and any action requiring authorization will redirect unauthenticated users to the full (OpenID included) login form.
