When we first posted a link to a KML file containing data from all our place records, it looked like this:

http://www.unc.edu/awmc/pleiades/data/kml/places-all-2007-09-21.kml

Whenever we release such a KML file (or other digital publication) it will be date stamped, and we will be keeping a copy of that version on our servers for future reference and citation. This policy is reflected in file naming conventions like this that include the date.

But of course many users will just want the most up-to-date data, and would prefer to be able to get it without changing URLs every time we release new information. For those folks, through the magic of mod rewrite, we now provide:

http://www.unc.edu/awmc/pleiades/data/kml/places-all.kml

This URL will always get you the most recent version of our all-places kml file, whenever it is updated.
