What's New: Reliable Links

last modified: 08 March 2007 06:23

We now have pleiades.stoa.org and stable identifiers

pleiades.stoa.org

The URL to use for Pleiades is now http://pleiades.stoa.org. This new domain name will provide for a seamless transition from our beta site to production, without breaking any services or connections that partners build around our services. Thanks to Ross Scaife and Casey Lengacher for making it happen!

Pleiades identifiers

Places and Names derived from the Barrington Atlas now have permanent Pleiades IDs. These IDs have a permanent relationship to our URLs and to a series of identifiers already established for the BAtlas features themselves. For example, the bibliographic citation

BAtlas 65 D4 Arykanda

has already been assigned the permanent identifier

batlas-65-2-40

in the Barrington Atlas digital registry. In Pleiades, this place is identified by the string

http://pleiades.stoa.org/places/638769

and it is under this rubric that future updates will be developed and cited. Users and systems working with legacy BAtlas citations or the corresponding registry identifiers can still link reliably to the new Pleiades places by way of a query interface as follows:

http://pleiades.stoa.org/places/search?q=batlas-65-2-40

redirects automatically to

http://pleiades.stoa.org/places/638769
