Of uncertain foundation date, but confirmed by the Roman Senate under Tiberius as belonging to the Messenians (as part of the Ager Denthaliatis), rather than the Spartans.

- The Paneion at Caesarea Philippi, a sanctuary site dedicated to Pan centered around a natural cave and spring site on the southwestern slopess of Mount Hermon. The sanctuary was first built in the Hellenistic period (before 200 BCE). A temple to Augustus was constructed in front of the cave during the reign of Herod the Great in 19 BCE, and the site was further expanded through 220 CE.

Literary and archaeological evidence indicate that the sanctuary featured a temple, a cave treated as a mouth of the underworld, and other structural and monumental components. It seems to have served as a sanctuary site for suppliants and a context for the formal manumission of enslaved persons.
