The so-called Guadalquivir Marshes (Marismas del Guadalquivir) are a region of wetlands located on the lower Guadalquivir River. In antiquity these wetlands included a lagoon and an estuary known as Lacus Ligustinus. Silting gradually transformed the lake into wetlands.
