An Iron Age settlement and necropolis located in the Monti Lepini near the abbey of Valvisciolo, characterized by polygonal masonry terrace walls. While the ancient name of the site is unknown, various proposals have been raised, including Sulmo (Savignoni, Mengarelli) and Pometia (Ogilvie). The settlement corresponds to the Latial II B phase and occupation ends ca. the late sixth century B.C.

In the Roman Republican period, Velitrae was attacked by Marcus Furius Camillus (379 B.C.) and again by Cincinnatus (377 B.C.); the Romans controlled the site by 365 B.C. The gens Octavia hailed from the city and a youthful Octavian spent time there.
