This large, open-air sanctuary near Syme Viannou in southern Crete was in use from 2000 BCE until at least the sixth century CE. It attracted pilgrims who are assumed to have camped at the site, which is far from any contemporary settlement. Monumental construction began in the early second millennium BCE and multiple phases and changes are evident, including the construction of Christian chapels in late antiquity. Although the identities of the deities worshiped here at the earliest periods are uncertain (as are the saints venerated in the Christian period), the association with Hermes and Aphrodite seems to have begun as early as the 10th century BCE.

Kas(h)kar was a significant Sasanian city, originally built on the west bank of the Tigris river in what is now modern Iraq's al-Kut district. A major flood in antiquity moved the channel of the Tigris, leaving Kashkar on the east bank. The city was supplanted by the new city of Wasit, built in the 8th century CE; Kashkar was subsequently abandoned. The original city is presumed to have lain somewhere in the vicinity of the modern residential area northeast of modern Wasit, across the heavily-controlled modern Tigris.

A Roman bridge (and possibly coincident road station) on the Via Appia over the Aufidus (modern Ofanto) river in Italy, listed on the Peutinger map and in the Antonine Itinerary. Traditionally it has been identified with a bridge known today as Ponte S. Venere, but recently archaeological work has cast doubt on this view and some scholars now favor an identification with the Ponte romano Pietra dell'Oglio, which lies about 15 miles further south and can be securely dated to the Roman period.

Located in the eastern periphery of modern Viareggio on the road to Massarosa, the small site at San Rocchino was excavated in a series of campaigns between the mid 1960s and early 1970s. After evidence of occasional use between the Final Bronze Age and the Villanovan period (12th-mid 8th c. BCE), the site was steadily occupied in two phases, the first from the late 8th to mid 5th c. BCE, the second from the late 4th to the 3rd/2nd c. BCE, when it was destroyed by fire. The site sits on the edge of what was once a much larger coastal lagoon (what remains is today's lago di Massaciuccoli), built up on terraced fill starting in the 7th c. BCE. To the Archaic period, in the second half of the 6th c. BCE, can be dated the remains of four wooden huts and associated port infrastructure. The site has produced evidence of far-flung commercial contacts, including South Etruscan bucchero, Nuraghic, Phoenician, Attic, and East Greek ceramics and Aegean transport amphorae. Locally made impasto and bucchero pottery together with Etruscan graffiti on ceramics suggest a primarily Etruscan local presence.
