An online group work session like this is a great way to start learning how to edit and improve content in Pleiades. It's also a good way to meet your fellow community members.

I invite you -- whether  seasoned Pleiades contributor or plucky beginner -- to join myself and other members of the Pleiades Community in a virtual hack day next Thursday, 6 December 2012. Our goal will be to identify Pleiades place resources that presently have less-than-fully-helpful descriptions (e.g., "An ancient place, cited: BAtlas 26 C2 Aritium" and to collaborate to improve them. Of particular interest will be groups of ancient places that share the same name. Providing better descriptions for these will make our search results more useful to everyone and will also provide better information for users of those sites that have deployed ISAW's Ancient World Linked Data Javascript library.

We'll start assembling (virtually) in the Pleiades IRC channel at 17:00 GMT (that's noon US Eastern Time) and we'll keep the hackfest rolling for the next 4 hours. If you're unfamiliar with IRC (a tried-and-true, old-school form of online chat room), please have a look at our help page on the subject: http://pleiades.stoa.org/help/content/pleiades-irc. You're welcome to drop into the Pleiades IRC channel ahead of time to test things out. Be sure to say hello.

I look forward to seeing you there!
