The archaeological site at Bestansur is in the Shahrizor Plain in the foothills of the Central Zagros mountains in modern Iraq. The tell, which lies just east and south of the modern village, shows evidence for extensive Early Neolithic occupation as well as later Neo-Assyrian and Sasanian activity.
