Palea Kameni is the smaller of the two volcanogenic islands in the centre of the Santorini caldera, formed over the last two millennia. It was most likely formed before or during the major period of volcanic activity in A.D. 1866-1870.

Base map by Ryan M. Horne for Pleiades and the Ancient World Mapping Center (ancient terrain after the Barrington Atlas). Map interaction design and implementation by Sean Gillies, David Glick, Alec Mitchell, and Tom Elliott for Pleiades.
