Vessagiriya is the site of an ancient Buddhist forest monastery in Sri Lanka. It is considered part of the ruined site of Anuradhapura. The monastery was initially built in the middle of the third century BCE and was expanded in the late fifth century CE. A Roman bronze coin, as well as punch-marked coins and/or ingots, were excavated at Vessagiriya in the first decade of the 20th century.
