A modern city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Machilipatnam served as a major port on the Bay of Bengal, from the 16th through the 19th centuries. Some Roman coins and Mediterranean ceramics have been recovered in the area.

Pleiades

The Greek names Maisolos and Masalia are often assigned to ancient Machilipatnam, although they are more properly understood as (for the former) an ancient name of the Krishna river and (for the latter) a regional name (thus BAtlas). Both the mouth of the Krishna and Masalia lay in the area, so there may well be some sort of toponymic link.
