Hadrumetum/Iustinianopolis was an important ancient port in North Africa. Founded by Phoenicians, the site pre-dated Carthage. Under Roman administration the site prospered and Trajan assigned it colonial status as Colonia Concordia Ulpia Trajana Augusta Frugifera Hadrumetina.

Base map by Ryan M. Horne for Pleiades and the Ancient World Mapping Center (ancient terrain after the Barrington Atlas). Map interaction design and implementation by Sean Gillies, David Glick, Alec Mitchell, and Tom Elliott for Pleiades.
