The site of ancient Steiri has only ever been partly explored and defined. The city was located in an area known locally today as Paliokhori. The acropolis has been identified on a hill locally known today as Bouli, where a church or monastery of Agios Nikolaos (now ruined?) reportedly succeeded it. The site was not coincident with the modern town that has inherited the ancient name. Rather, ancient Stiris was located to the south and east of the famous monastery of Hosios Loukas, which lies between modern Steiri and modern Kyriaki (archaeological evidence for fortifications and other structures have, however, been noted both at modern Steiri and at Hosios Loukas as elsewhere in the area).38.384320 22.755354
