Small island in the Venetian Lagoon. A church and monastery were constructed on the site during the 9th century CE, and it was used as a leper colony in the medieval and early modern periods. Since 1717 CE, it has been home to an Armenian Catholic (Mkhitarist) monastery, from which the island derives its modern name.
