The Castle of Oria is a fortification complex on the northern side of Tempe valley of Peneus river, between Mount Olympus and Mount Ossa, in Thessaly, Greece. It played a critical role in defending the region during the Byzantine period. Evidence for the fortifications’ existence in the area can be traced back to a now lost inscription dated to 48 BC. The tower of Oria has traces from several construction periods during the Byzantine period.
