Local tradition holds that the Castello di Lombardia, located at Enna, was established on the site of a fortified acropolis of the Sicani. The castle is located on a mountain top some 970 meters above sea level.) The castle remains that are visible in the present day belong to a construction phase initiated by Ruggero II of Sicily in 1130.
