Tell Abu Dhahir is located on the right bank of the Tigris River, 90 km northwest of Mosul. The British Archaeological Expedition in Iraq conducted excavations there between October 1985 and April 1986, in advance of the completion of the Eski Mosul Dam project. The pluristratified tell documents the remains of numerous cultures, including Hassuna, Ubaid, Uruk, Ninevite V, Akkadian, Khabur, Late Assyrian, and Hellenistic/Parthian phases.
