Qumran is an archaeological site located in the West Bank near the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea. A Hellenistic settlement of the second century was eventually destroyed by the Romans in A.D. 68. The site is best known for the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden.
