Gövelek is a village situated 27 km to the east of Van in the southeast of Turkey. Here the upper part of a stela with an inscription of Rusa, son of Erimena (presumably last quarter of 8th century BCE) was found. It reports his military success and describes deportations from the city Ṭušpa, the building of the city Rusaḫinili, and the creation of an artificial lake called "Lake of Rusa". The lake was supposed to ensure the water supply for the capital Ṭušpa (modern Van Kalesi), a function it still performs today. The lower part of the stela has been found at the shore of the lake.

Habıbuşağı (İzoli) was an Urartian fortress situated near Kömürhan, at the left shore of the river Euphrates in the Elazığ Province of eastern Turkey. Today it is covered by the reservoir behind the Karakaya dam. Habıbuşağı is best known on account of a rock inscription of the Urartian king Sarduri II, son of Argišti (eighth century BCE) which reports the expedition of Sarduri to this region. Habıbuşağı is, in fact, the westernmost known fortress of the Urartian kingdom.

The so-called "Barco Borghese" is an archaeological site located in Monte Porzio Catone (Roma) in Italy. This multiperiod site began as a Roman terracing or substructure, perhaps originally meant to support a villa (basis villae). Subsequent modification and reuse converted the Roman structure into a "barco", an enclosure for animal hunts.

Tel Hazor (Hebrew: תל חצור) is an archaeological site located in the southern Hula Valley overlooking Lake Merom. From the Middle Bronze Age to the Israelite period in the ninth century B.C., Hazor was the largest fortified city in the region. It served as a commercial center with links to Babylon and Syria. In the Book of Joshua, Hazor is described as “the head of all those kingdoms” (Josh. 11:10).

Tell es-Sweyhat or Sweyhat refers to an ancient settlement mound or tell located along the Euphrates river in what is now the Raqqa Governorate of northern Syria. This human settlement was occupied from the beginning of the third millennium BCE until its collapse in the early second millennium BCE. The site remained occupied during the Early Bronze-Middle Bronze age transition. There is later reoccupation of the site during the Hellenistic and late Roman periods.

Volsinii, also referred to as Volsinii Novi, is thought to be the settlement where Rome resettled the survivors of the Volsinian rebellion of 264 BCE. This episode is discussed by Zonaras (8. 7. 8). A late republican center at Bolsena, Italy, with civic architecture (forum) and domus has been excavated since 1946 by the École Française and is identified as Volsinii Novi.
