A guest post by Herbert Verreth in the Pleiades gazetteer "Projects and Partners" series, concerning the geographic components of the Trismegistos platform, which aims to provide information and stable identifiers for toponyms in ancient documentary and literary sources across languages.

https://www.trismegistos.org/

The Trismegistos online platform has a geographical file called TM Geo that aims to list all modern places where ancient documents have been found, and all ancient toponyms and micro toponyms mentioned in both documentary and literary sources in whatever ancient language. Work is still going on, of course, but for the moment TM Geo has already 64,498 entries. If possible, we try to link each toponym with its corresponding Pleiades entry (and vice versa), so that users can benefit from the information offered by both platforms. As of today (1 November 2024) TM Geo has 13,226 links to Pleiades entries from all over the ancient world.
