These names were sometimes used by the Romans to denote a portion of the Mediterranean Sea that RE asserts lies between southern Italy, Sicily, and Malta on the west and the Peloponnese and coast of Epiros on the east. BAtlas positions the label for this feature midway between Sicily and the Peloponese, some way below the label for "Ionium Mare".
