Now unlocated, the "oppidum Pirae" is mentioned by Pliny the Elder and was located between Formiae and Minturnae. Local toponym suggests, according to A. Marzano, that this same place was later incorporated into a villa owned by Marcus Aemilius Scaurus. Marzano suggests that Pirae is in the vicinity of Torre Gianola.
