History
Attested by Ptolemy, who makes it a metropolis, BAtlDir treated Mousopallis as an unlocated "inland settlement in Mysore" based on Ptolemy's listing it under the surprising heading "inland cities of piratical men". Without addressing this interesting phrase, Mohan Reddy 2001 asserts strongly that Mousopallis should be identified with the ancient-to-medieval port at Motupalli on India's east coast, an assertion that Dayalan 2019 passes over in silence.
