A no-longer-visible villa maritima was identified north of Tergeste in 1887. According to AdriAtlas, a reanalysis by Fontana (1993) places the beginnings of the villa's occupational sequence in the third quarter of the first century BCE.

The villa, once fronting some 200 m on the seafront, was initially excavated by Alberto Puschi. The site's artifacts were reexamined by Federica Fontana.
