Pausanias describes the Sanctuary of Artemis Anaiitis in Lydia in his third book. Central to his discussion is the xoanon of Artemis that may have been present in the sanctuary, one which he associates with the object Orestes has carried off from Taurus, an episode described by Euripides in his play, Iphigenia in Tauris.
