An intermittent stream attested in the Troad whose plain features as the scene of battles in Homer's account of the Trojan war. After Pliny, RE and BAtlas make the Simoeis a late, right tributary of the Xanthos. New Pauly asserts it was a tributary of the Scamander. The topography of the Scamander/Xanthos delta has changed significantly throughout antiquity and up to today by virtue of both natural processes and modern agricultural and hydraulic engineering. Modern commentators agree in identifying it with the modern Dümruk Su (i.e., Dümrek Çayı), despite the varying views of its ultimate confluence.

The Barrington Atlas Directory notes: Dümruk Su. Many modern commentaries make the Simoeis a tributary of the Scamander, but BAtlas and RE explicitly do not.
