Waelkens 1987 describes the discovery of a quarry district referred to as Taşlı Göl. It is to be located between the villages of Doğanlı, Gözler, and Çindere. This site is approximately 25 km northwest of Pamukkale. The marble from these quarries is identified as Thiounta marble on the basis of comparison with the coarser marble of Hierapolis.
