Now occupied by the ruins of a 19th-century fortified manor house built atop and with spolia from a Crusader-era fortress, this hill and environs were in antiquity the site of a fortified village destroyed by the Romans in the first century but subsequently repopulated. Today a national park, the area was formerly occupied by the Palestinian village of Majdal Yaba, which was depopulated in the 1940s.
