Based on inscriptional evidence, the Temple of Artemis Azzanathkona was likely damaged by an earthquake in 160 CE and rebuilt shortly after. In the period after the earthquake (ie. phase 2), the area formerly belonging to the temple in phase 1 was reorganized to include both the temple and an adjacent complex of rooms used for military storage and record keeping.
