The fortified Saint Simeon Monastery (Aswan, Egypt) dates to the seventh century. It was initially sacred to the local saint Anba Hedra. The site was rebuilt in the tenth century and re-dedicated to Saint Simeon. Saladin partially destroyed the monastery in 1173.
