Ball (1987) describes his excavations at Seh Gubba that were carried out as part of the Saddam Dam Salvage Project. These excavations took place in early 1986 and revealed a fortified town. Ramparts dating to either the Sasanian or Byzantine phases surround the tell but Ball speculates the settlement was likely of Roman origin.
