Recent geophysical investigation and analysis have led to a new reconstruction of the main harbor of Delos ca. 100 BCE that identifies a shallow-draft (1-2m) harbor with broad beach area significantly different from the modern situation. Infill of wetland areas for construction in antiquity, combined with contemporary and subsequent sea level rise, dredging, and modern interventions have all contributed to the coastline change.
