The François Tomb (also known as Tomba François) was discovered in 1857 in the Ponte Rotto necropolis at Vulci by Alessandro François and Adolphe Noël des Vergers. The tomb belonged to the Etruscan Saties family and its patron seems to be Vel Saties, who is depicted in the fresco cycle. The frescoes are important examples of Etruscan art in the Hellenistic period and a key piece of evidence for the study of Italic iconography, particularly with respect to mytho-historical narrative cycles.
