- The tumulus of Montariolo originally measured some 4 meters in height and 50 meters in diameter. It included more than 350 tombs. It was used during several phases, stretching from the ninth to the fifth centuries BCE.

Until the early 1960s, the site was known for the monumental tumulus that Mengarelli had excavated in the 1920s.
