The original and pioneering South Etruria Survey was led by J.B. Ward-Perkins of the British School at Rome from the 1950s to the 1970s. The initial focus was the territory of the city of Veii (Ager Veientanus). A revisiting of this survey area and the project's outcomes was part of the Tiber Valley Project led by Helen Patterson and initiated in 1997.

The Stoa at Brauron, within the larger Artemis Brauronia complex, housed dining spaces as well as votive offerings to the goddess Artemis. The Stoa was Π-shaped, wrapping around a courtyard that separated it from the temple of Artemis at Brauron, which it faced. Worship at the cult site began ca. the eighth century BCE. The site was abandoned after a flood in the third century BCE.
