Last week in the (1-8 June 2026): Over the past week the Pleiades editorial college published 14 new and 214 updated place resources, reflecting the work of Jeffrey Becker, Anika Campbell, Tom Elliott, Greta Hawes, Ryan M. Horne, Brady Kiesling, and R. Scott Smith.

Last week the Pleiades editorial college published 8 new place resources and approved updates to 146 existing place resources.

New Place Resources

  • Ad Palmam was a place in North Africa and is included on the Peutinger map. It is located along the route from a place called Lacene, also unlocated, to Tacape.

  • The Castle of Irulegi is a medieval castle located atop the eponymous mountain, located in the Sierra de Aranguren in the Spanish municipality of Laquidáin. In 1494, Catherine of Navarre ordered the demolition of the castle.

  • Lacene was a place in North Africa. It is included on the Peutinger map where it is presented as a name without a symbol. Based on the routes on the Peutinger map, Lacene was located between Ad Palmam and Praesidium Silvani.

  • A large-scale building, tentatively identified as a palace, constructed during the 9th century BCE and in use until about 500 CE.

  • The Iron Age settlement at Poblado de Irulegui is noted as the findspot of the so-called "Hand of Irulegi", a bronze, hand-shaped artifact dated ca. 80 to 72 BCE. This object carries an important inscription written in the Northeastern Iberian script.

  • Site of a Roman temple and possible small town near the confluence of the rivers Soar and Trent near Ratclifffe-on-Soar, Nottinghamshire. Findspot of at least three curse tablets (defixiones).

  • The Roman theater of ancient Calama (now Guelma) was built in the early third century CE and substantially restored in the twentieth century.

  • Architectural remains consistent with a Roman-era villa maritima have been identified on both the north and south sides of a small bay at modern Valbandon in Croatia. Originally thought to represent a single establishment that wrapped the entire bay, more recent interpretations would see two separate architectural complexes.
