The Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc Cave in southern France contains the earliest known and best preserved figurative cave paintings in the world, dating from the Upper Paleolithic. The cave was discovered on December 18, 1994, and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List on June 22, 2014.
