Palaikastro, located in eastern Crete, was an important trading center in antiquity, from the Bronze Age going forward.

Palaikastro is associated with the port of Itanos and with the nearby Minoan site of Roussolakkos near the Chiona beach. The so-called Palaikastro Kouros, a chryselephantine statue of the fifteenth century B.C., was discovered at Palaikastro.
