The columbarium of Scribonius Menophilus was originally built during the Augustan period and continued in use until the second century CE. Construction on the grounds of the Villa Doria Pamphili during the sixteenth century partially destroyed the upper level of the columbarium. The tomb came to be rediscovered in 1984.
