Pleiades
This gate has been tentatively identified as the Anu Gate (Andreas Fuchs), the Ea Gate (Beate Pongratz-Leisten, Alexander Sollee), and the Ištar Gate (Laura Battini, Jamie Novotny). Because there is no one-to-one correlation between Sargon’s inscriptions and available archaeological evidence, the proposed identification of the ancient name of Khorsabad Gate 6 remains open to debate. Since one expects a grand, decorated entranceway to be associated with the goddess Ištar, Gate 6 might have been dedicated to this important goddess, rather than to the god Anu or the god Ea.
