Early Islamic structure in Eastern Jordan, likely constructed prior to the 8th century CE. Though its outward appearance suggests a castle, it does not seem to have had any military function, and the original purpose of the structure is not known.

Qasr el-Banat is a fortified site in Egypt's Eastern Desert, some 15 km from Wadi Hammamat.

The complex at Qasr el-Hallabat began as a Roman frontier fort along the Via Nova Traiana under the emperor Caracalla. There is evidence for pre-Roman activity at the site (Nabatean). By the eighth century the Umayyad caliph Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik ordered that the Roman structures be demolished in order to redevelop the outpost as an Umayyad desert complex.
