- Halaesa is located on the north coast of Sicily between between Kalakta and Kephaloidion. The city was founded in 403 B.C. by Archonides of Herbita. The city sided with Rome during the First Punic War and was made "libera et immunis". By the Augustan period it had become a municipium.
