Bismaya, ancient Adab, is a major archaeological mound in southern Iraq. The site is located in the present-day Wāsiṭ Province about 65 kilometres south of al-Kūt. Excavations by E.J. Banks from 1903-05 uncovered extensive remains of the ancient city of Adab, predominantly dating to the 3rd and early 2nd millennium BCE. In its day, Adab was renowned, especially for its temple, the Emaẖ, dedicated to the goddess Ninẖursag.

The collective tomb known in modern times as "La Cachette de Bab el-Gasous" at Deir el-Bahari in Egypt was discovered in the early twentieth century and its contents (the remains and funerary equipment of 153 members of the Theban elite dating to the end of the 21st dynasty) were distributed to some 90 museums around the world. The tomb extended under the "Court of Hatshepsut" from a concealed entry located north of the east end of the court and now surrounded by a low stone wall.

An ancient settlement, thought by modern scholars to have been located east of the site of ancient Olympia and south of the Alpheios river in the vicinity of modern Frixa. CFL/AGO reports the discovery of Classical/Hellenistic tombs just south of Frixa and west of Anemochoraki. The ToposText editors note the presence of pottery scatter just north of Phrixa village, coincident with the hilltop (Paliophanaro) identified in New Pauly as the site.

A stratovolcano located in the Gulf of Naples, Vesuvius stands to an elevation of 1,281 m (4,203 ft). It is notable in historical terms for its eruption of AD 79 in which numerous settlements, including Pompeii and Herculaneum, were destroyed.

Volsinii, also referred to as Volsinii Novi, is thought to be the settlement where Rome resettled the survivors of the Volsinian rebellion of 264 BCE. This episode is discussed by Zonaras (8. 7. 8). A late republican center at Bolsena, Italy, with civic architecture (forum) and domus has been excavated since 1946 by the École Française and is identified as Volsinii Novi.
