A small Romano-British courtyard villa was excavated at Lippen Wood, West Meon, by A. Moray-Williams in 1906. The villa had 16 rooms, three of which had mosaic floors.

Whitton Lodge is the site of a later Prehistoric settlement enclosure that developed into a Roman villa. The site was identified in the twentieth century by means of cropmarks. Nothing is visible at the surface today.
