Pleiades Contributor Agreement
These terms apply to your use of the data and information systems associated with the Pleiades Project, your interaction with other users of these data and systems, and your contribution of content to those systems. These terms also set out the intellectual property rights you retain with respect to such contributions, and the license under which you make them. If your contributions are on behalf of a company or other corporate entity (to include academic and non-profit institutions, as well as informal research groups), the term 'you' will also mean corporate entity that employs or sponsors you or makes some other claim of rights with respect to your contribution.
Use of a Pleiades username and account constitutes your agreement to all terms outlined in this document. Read this agreement carefully before using your account.
1. The term 'supporting institution(s)' indicates those institutions that presently, or in future, support and facilitate the activities of the Pleiades Community, to include: The Ancient World Mapping Center at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University and the Stoa Consortium for Electronic Publication in the Humanities at the University of Kentucky.
2. The term 'pleiades project system' means any information system operated by the Pleiades Project or its supporting institutions on behalf of the Pleiades Community, to include: http://pleiades.stoa.org andhttp://www.atlantides.org/trac/pleiades.
3. The term 'contribution' means any source code, specification, bug report, documentation, site description, coordinate, comment graphic or other information posted or submitted by you to a pleiades project system.
4. With respect to any worldwide copyrights, copyright applications and registrations, patents or patent applications that pertain or may in future pertain in your contribution, you make your contribution under the terms of a non-exclusive, non-revocable licensing agreement with the Pleiades Project, its supporting institutions and other users, as follows:
- For contributions of geographical, historical, analytical and other relevant content, the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, version 3.0 U.S. (or later; http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/us/) shall apply.
- For contributions of software code, object code, patches and other software-related aspects the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 3 (or later; http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html) shall apply. Contribution of some code items may be arranged under terms of other open-source licenses as necessary to satisfy corporate interests. Such arrangements will be made in dialogue with the Pleiades Project Principal Investigator and Managing Editors, as appropriate.
5. Except as set out above, you keep all right, title, and interest in your contribution. The rights that you grant to us under these terms are effective on the date you first logged into your Pleiades account.
6. With respect to your contribution, you represent that:
- it is an original work and that you can legally grant the rights set out in these terms;
- it does not to the best of your knowledge violate any third party's copyrights, trademarks, patents, or other intellectual property rights; and
- you are authorized to activate this contract on behalf of your company or institution if your company or institution claims ownership in any aspect of your contribution.
7. You agree to abide by all terms of the Pleiades Community Standards of Conduct (http://pleiades.stoa.org/docs/information-resources/policy-documents/conduct), and any amendments thereunto deemed appropriate by the Senior Editors of Pleiades. You further to agree to abide by all disciplinary decisions of the Senior Editors taken in accordance with the Pleiades Community Standards of Conduct, to include revocation of your user account and prohibition of future participation in the Community. Moreover, you agree to hold blameless all Pleiades project staff and participants in the context of any disciplinary decisions taken by the Pleiades Senior Editors in the context of the Pleiades Community Standards of Conduct.
8. These terms will be governed by the laws of the State of New York and applicable U.S. Federal law. Any choice of law rules will not apply.
