- Ancient springs, mentioned by Livy in his account of the military campaign of Gnaeus Manlius Vulso (consul of 189 BCE) in "Gallograecia" in Asia Minor. Scholars identify these "fontes" with the water source (Pınarbaşı) feeding the modern Karakuyu/Çapalı Gölü in Turkey's Afyonkarahisar province.

- The ancient Rhyndakos river has been identified with the modern Mustafakemalpaşa Çayı, which flows through the modern Uluabat Gölü (ancient Miletopolitis/Apolloniatis) and then into a lower course of what is now known as the Simav Çayı, ultimately emptying into the Propontis (modern Sea of Marmara).
