The popular toponym associated with this monument - Arco di Druso or Arch of Drusus - is a misnomer and is misleading. This is problematic given other textual, epigraphic, and archaeological attestations that mention honorific monuments dedicated to Nero Claudius Drusus. This place is the site of the remains of a triple-bay arch that is now reduced to the central bay. The monument sits astride the Via Appia just inside the Porta S. Sebastiano and has been referred to as "Arco di Druso" since the sixteenth century. The monument is built of travertine and faced with marble. This arch, in fact, supported the Aqua Antoniniana, a branch of the Aqua Marcia. The connection with Drusus is erroneous.

Agade was the capital of the Akkadian state, which was the dominant military and political force in southern Mesopotamia ca. 2334-2113 B.C. Agade (also known as Akkad and Akkade) is mentioned in cuneiform texts from the late third millennium B.C. to the Neo-Babylonian period. The exact location is still unknown and debated among scholars, many of whom place it along or east of the Tigris River, between Samarra and Baghdad.

Arrian (quoting Megasthenes) lists the Agoranis among a large number of tributaries of the Ganges river. Some modern scholarship (e.g., Tomaschek in RE) has therefore identified it with the modern Gogra (Ghaghara); however, Erdosy in BAtlas silently rejects this view, preferring to identify it as a distributary of the Ganges, the modern Garai (Gorai) in Bangladesh.
