Johan Åhlfeldt has contributed to Pleiades the many improved locations from his Roman Empire map project (http://pelagios.dme.ait.ac.at/maps/greco-roman/about.html) and I've finished running the scripts that have merged these back into Pleiades. We've also merged annotations used by Johan to style the features on his map as tags (such as "dare:major=1") into Pleiades so that future updates to the Pelagios map tiles can run directly against the daily Pleiades data dumps. Below is a summary of the completed work.
19063 updates were offered by Johan's Digital Atlas of the Roman Empire project (DARE henceforth).
13180 were tags only.
3641 were endorsements and upvotes of existing locations (primarily from DARMC) + tags.
589 were submissions of new village level (DARE level "2") precision, better-than-DARMC locations + tags.
1653 were submissions of new site level (DARE level "3") precision, better-than-DARMC locations + tags.
In 244 cases, no location from DARE was added because we already had non-DARMC site level precision locations provided by users. For example, here's a location that we kept instead of Johan's submission:
http://pleiades.stoa.org/places/265922/center-point-of-visible-remains-ilici-1
The distance between this one and the one submitted by Johan is very small, just a few meters.
In 138 cases, no location from DARE was added because it was within ~10 meters of an existing Pleiades location. Some DARMC locations are of very high quality, and are almost indistinguishable from Johan's. We knew this going in, but didn't know exactly which ones until we ran the script.
Final count of completely new and improved locations from DARE: 1860. Here is the list: http://pleiades.stoa.org/search?Provenance=Digital+Atlas+of+the+Roman+Empire.
