Gallia was famously described by Caesar as the territory of the ancient Celts (Celtae), whom the Romans called Gauls (Galli in Latin), hence the common modern usage "Gaul" for the region.

- The Neo-Hittite kingdom of Gurgum (Hittite Karkuma, Luwian Kurkuma, Aramaic grgm) was located north of the Amanus mountains. Gurgum, whose capital was Marqasi (modern Maraş), is known from Akkadian, Aramaic, Hittite, and Luwian sources.
